Chandigarh : The Punjab government Thursday imposed a blanket ban on journalistic activities undertaken by teachers and other employees of the education department.
“Journalistic activities undertaken by teachers or other education department employees would not be allowed at any cost and strict action would be initiated against anyone found violating the ban,” Punjab Education Minister Sikander Singh Maluka said here.
The action would be initiated against violators under the provisions of civil service rules, he added.
The minister, however, said that teachers or other employees could contribute articles on subjects related to literature or science in newspapers and magazines or broadcast the same on radio and television.
He said the education department was in favour of grooming talent by encouraging teaching fraternity to create quality literature and develop interest among students in sciences through well-written articles.
Sources in the education department said that some teachers and staff were working part-time as journalists with print and electronic media and were writing articles critical of the state government and their department.
