New Delhi : The Indian government Friday said it will decide on the visit of another Pakistan judicial panel here to cross-examine witnesses related to the trial of the 26/11 Mumbai carnage after completion of internal consultations.
“The home ministry is consulting judicial authorities in this and we will be in a position to reply once we get a response from the judicial authorities,” Syed Akbaruddin, the external affairs ministry spokesman, told reporters here.
He added that the government has taken a positive view of the request but would be able to respond once internal consultations were complete.
In an important step to goad Pakistan to expedite the 26/11 terror attack trial, India Thursday had conveyed its “in-principle agreement” to allow a second judicial commission from Pakistan to visit Mumbai and cross-examine the officials involved in recording the confessional statement of Ajmal Kasab, the lone surviving Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist.
This was conveyed during talks between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari on the sidelines of the Non-Aligned Movement summit in Tehran.
