Moscow: Twenty-one customs officers at a Lithuanian customs checkpoint have been detained on suspicion of corruption and abuse of office, the Customs Department said.
The officers were detained at the Medininkai post of the Vilnius territorial customs service by the department’s internal investigations unit Wednesday.
The case will be overseen by the prosecutor for organised crime and corruption.
This is perhaps the largest corruption case in the history of Lithuanian customs service, the department said.
The Medininkai customs post is on the border with Belarus, 30 km southeast of Vilnius.
