Written agreement between Shia-Sunni in Meerut for unity and peace

Meerut/Lucknow: The Shia and Sunni sects of Abdullahpur town in Meerut district has signed a written agreement between them for maintaining unity in the area.

Abdullahpur has witnessed sectarian violence between the two sects on 8th day of Moharram (November 23). Police cases were filed from both sides and police has arrested several of them. Several people were injured in the violence.

As per reports, the two sects have formed a committee which will include ten members from each side who are respectable in their community. The community will strive to maintain peace and the just decision of the community will be acceptable to both the sects.
The cases which have been registered from both the sides against each other will be taken back after mutual consent.

No new practice will be allowed and the traditional procession and activities will be allowed during Moharram and other occasions. If any new practice is allowed, it will be only after the decision of the committee.

In future if there is any incident of Shia-Sunni violence, the committee will solve it and cases will be lodged against only actual people and no innocent will be named.

The matter which is subjudice in the civil court over title dispute will be accepted as per the decision of the court. Abduallahpur town is witnessing a dispute over Jama Masjid and Imambara for past five decades. Cases from both the sides have been lodged against each other.
This Moharram, the issue snowballed into a major violence in the town.

Both the sides signed the agreement and later handed it over to DM Meerut.
