Kolkata: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh Saturday said the IIT fraternity could be leaders in the administrative and technical fields by utilising their experiences, expertise and abilities in the state’s development.
“Your partnership will play a significant role in making Chhattisgarh a developed and progressive state. It will also open new avenues for the development of the IIT fraternity,” Singh said while invoking successful IIT graduates.
Addressing the Pan-IIT global conference at Science City auditorium in Kolkata, Singh said: “We all are aware that complete development could not be achieved without ensuring the welfare of the common man.”
“Many good schemes fail due to lack of proper implementation of delivery system with respect to the ground realities,” he added.
Singh invited highly-placed IIT graduates to visit Chhattisgarh and help the government in making it a people-friendly state.
He said that Chhattisgarh is rich in natural resources and has 42 per cent forest area and the per capita consumption in the state is 1,547 units, more than double of the national per capita consumption, which is 779 units.
Singh added: “The state’s contribution to the economy of the nation has increased four-fold.”
He said that 10 years ago, the state’s GDP was Rs.29,500 crore, which has increased to Rs.135,500 crore. He added that Chhattisgarh has maintained an 11 percent growth rate, which is double than the national average.
