Jaipur : A court will frame charges in a corruption case against an Indian Police Service officer of Rajasthan cadre six months after he was arrested for taking bribe with help of his junior officer, officials said Thursday.
The process of framing of charges will begin Dec 19 after the Rajasthan Police’s Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) filed a charge-sheet against Ajay Singh in a special court for anti-corruption cases in Ajmer Wednesday, they added.
Singh, deputed as deputy superintendent of police in Ajmer, was arrested June 21 after his junior, Assistant Sub-Inspector Prem Singh Khangarot accepted the bribe on his behalf, a senior ACB officer told IANS.
The ACB had laid a trap for Khangarot after Bhawani Singh approached the agency and lodged a complaint.
“In the complaint, Bhawani Singh had alleged that Ajay Singh was threatening to implicate him in a false case if he did not give him a bribe of Rs.1.5 lakh. We caught the ASI red-handed accepting the bribe. During interrogation, the junior officer said that he was taking the bribe on behalf of the IPS officer,” said the officer.
Ajay Singh was lodged in the Jaipur Central Jail before he was released on bail Sep 19.
“Generally, getting approval from the government to prosecute senior officials is quite a tiresome work, but we got the prosecution sanction about a week ago,” said the officer.
He added that the agency filed the charge sheet in the special court for anti-corruption cases in Ajmer Wednesday after securing the approval.
“We have attached all the evidence with the chargesheet. Singh has been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act. The trial against him will begin after framing of charges,” said the officer.
