London : At least 42 young Britons – aged 10 to 17 years – are arrested every day for drug offences, The Sun reported.
Police have made such arrests around 46,000 times in the past three years.
More than four in 10 such youth end up in court, with the vast majority getting criminal records.
The figures were revealed after Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg used an interview with The Sun to urge Prime Minister David Cameron to consider legalising cannabis.
The courts handed 17,380 drug sentences to under-18s between 2009 and 2011. In total, 626 such youth were sent straight to jail.
