Islamabad : At least 19 people were killed and 50 others injured Monday when a bomb ripped through a bus stand in Pakistan’s northwest tribal region, media reports said.
The bombing occurred around 11 a.m. in Jamrud town of Khyber agency in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) along the Afghan border, Xinhua reported.
The bomb was planted on a vehicle parked at a bus stand in a market area.
There were conflicting media reports on the toll. Geo News said 19 people were killed, while State-run TV channel PTV put the number of dead at 15 and the injured at 24. Other media reports said 17 people were killed.
The injured were taken to hospitals in Peshawar, 20 km from Jamrud. Hospital sources said some of the injured were in critical condition and the toll may rise.
At least 10 vehicles and many shops near the blast site were destroyed, the ARY TV channel reported.
TV footage showed smoke rising from the site and ambulances rushing to the place.
No group has claimed responsibility yet for the attack.
