Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Asim Hussain apprised Gilani about the progress made with regard to the import of LNG from Qatar, reported Associated Press of Pakistan.

The prime minister said his talks would focus on finalising the transnational formalities so that LNG import could be ensured at the earliest to overcome shortage of energy.

Pakistan is facing a severe energy crisis and the country has witnessed widespread protests over the lack of electricity. In July last year, two people were killed and 30 injured in a pitched battle between police and locals who were upset over acute electricity shortage in a town in Punjab province.
