An open letter to Prime Minister of India

By Hassan Aziz Aamir,

Hassan Aziz Aamir is the elder brother of Gauhar Aziz Khomani, who was arrested in November last year along with several other Muslim youths by Special Cell Delhi Police on the charges of being an alleged IM operative with involvement in several blasts. The National Investigative Agency (NIA), which had taken Khomany’s custody, concluded after months of interrogation that Khomani, along with other alleged IM activists, had no role to play in Delhi HC blast.

We belong to a humble family of India, and we were raised in the environment where each and every community respect and trust each other. At the time of Independence, our ancestors stayed back in India because they loved our country and believed in the constitution and judicial system of our mother land. We always love our mother land and are working hard to make it a more beautiful place to live in.

All of a sudden what has happened to our country? Our patriotism has been questioned. As we all know that Bihar has very limited resources and we all (poor, middle class families) have worked hard to achieve our dreams by using these available resources. Our ancestors taught us the power of Agriculture and education for the progression and development of our country. They also taught us to keep and maintain the moral values, respect each and every person of all the communities and provide help to the needy. With the hard work and dedication our area has produced several teachers, engineers, doctors, scientists, civil servants and so on.

With 60 years of hard work we brought our country on the top of the world map. But recently, we are facing the biggest tragedy and challenges of all times in our area. Some of the narrow minded people of our country are trying to destabilize our social structure, which we built with 60 years of hard work.

This has created anxiety to peace loving citizens of our great country. I have seen the nervousness and fear in our society with my naked eyes and as a good and law abiding citizen of our country, I would like to say that this is not a healthy development for our great country, where 19-20% of the population are gradually been cornered and isolated from main stream by the few narrow and self centered people.

The place where we always respect each other and call chacha (uncle), chachi (aunti), bahtejee (niece) and bhateja (nephew) without any relation now has became a scary place to live in. Dear Honorable Prime Minister, under your leadership what type of society we are building, where it is very difficult to help the needy, it is very difficult to sit with our
neighbors, it is very difficult to meet and communicate with anyone.

We are sacred to move on the road. You must be aware of the recent development in our country, where innocent and hard working Indians are sent to the jail for only one reason trying to help the needy and poor citizens of our country. We Muslims are blindly targeted by the communal forces. Muslims are sent to jail without any proper enquiry, they are humiliated and tortured. We are suffering from each and every side of the society. They are playing with the career of young generation of Indians.

This is a very serious issue but the Congress party, which is supposed to be secular party of our country, is not taking this issue very seriously. In the present circumstance, we all Muslims are helpless and hopeless. We are now treated as stepchildren of our country. The congress party has given free hand to the communal parties/forces to do whatever they like to do against one particular community.

Is it not very unfortunate that Muslims became easy prey to the hand of communal forces only because of supporting the secular parties especially congress in the election and trying to protect the secular constitution of our country? But what we are getting from secular parties in this return, they are silently watching us being tagged as anti-national and downgraded our moral values at the hands of fascist parties. How long will these secular parties stab us from the back?

Dear Sir, if we like to create a moral society then we have to punish immoral officer and uplift the moral value of common Indian population, where from the government selects the officers. You are our Prime minister and you are our only hope and we need your sincere support, we all trust you; we believe on you, please tell us, where we will go to ask for justice?? Whole Muslim community is now very much helpless.

I belong to a family of lawyers and I am a lawyer myself, we have been taught in our law class to protect the social and moral character of our society, an innocent should never be punished even if this results in many culprits being left free. In today’s scenario it seems that the policy is to punish one culprit even if it costs the life of several innocent people.

This policy has created havoc in the society. Today law is seen with horror and mistrust in the eyes of a common Indian, especially minorities, instead of as a means to seek
justice. Dear Sir, we Muslims need safety, protection, and honor. Recently our family is also suffering from the same injustice; I am the elder brother of Gauhar Aziz Khomani, who is mis-tagged with involvement in anti-national activity.

Gauhar is law abiding person and he respects our constitution and judicial system. We belong to a highly educated family and we had been taught to respect law. Our father is a retired civil engineer and completed his study from Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Sindri Bihar, one of the oldest engineering institutions in our country. My second brother is a civil engineer (B. Tech) and working in a Multi National Company in Saudi Arabia.

My third brother did PhD from one of reputed institutes in India and now he is a senior medical scientist in USA. He is working hard to bring our country’s reputation to the highest level abroad. Gauhar himself is a mechanical engineer (B Tech) and established his construction business in Delhi. Our parents had given us good education and taught us how to live in multi-cultural society peacefully.

What is the crime of our younger brother Gauhar? He has been punished because he helped the poor and needy person of our area by giving the job in his company. He is very kind hearted and helping person and always helped the poor and needy irrespective of religion. He was actively involved in social services. Recent, he also organized
public awareness campaigns in our area (such as anti-dowry, anti-tobacco/drugs, girls’ education program.).

Khomany has done many such good deeds but this is the reward he gets for his selfless service to the community – false allegation of being an anti-national element and supporting the anti-national group logistically and financially, an allegation that will ruin his life and career forever.

Will not such an allegation discourage the young generation of our country from doing something good for our country? Will it not disturb our whole social structure where rich and poor is dependent on each other? Is helping poor and doing social work a crime these days?? Sir, pre and post Independence we have given several sacrifice for our country but after 60 years of independence, still we have to give proof for our patriotism. Please tell us how long we have to give these types of test, how long..???

Despite everything that has been happening recently against our community we firmly believe in our judicial system, the secular constitution and civil servants (IAS, IPS and all other staff) of our country. We are hopeful that we will sure get justice.

If the ruling congress or any secular parties are thinking that this is a very serious issue of our society then why not they reach directly to our society and fix this problem at the social level. If you like to take our assistance we are always ready to take part actively to finish this problem from our society because maximum of the innocent Muslims are always trapped and mis-tagged because of mixed and complex social structure of our country.

We are living in the land of Mahatma Gandhi, where we believe on morale values and
non-violence; we are from the middle class family, morale values are very important to us, please don’t degrade our morale value, which we have got from our ancestors and have continuously worked hard to maintain it.

I would like to say that we all Muslims are very much Indian and always love our country till our last breath. Please don’t disturb us, please don’t punish us for being an Indian Muslim, please give us chance to take part in the development of our growing India, we all together can bring this great country on the top of the world.

Honorable Prime Minister —- Gauhar Aziz Khomainy’s wife is inconsolable on knowing the arrest of her husband and has fallen sick since then. She got boy baby few week before and still she is on bed. My parents have also fallen sick on knowing their son’s arrest and their health condition is also deteriorating day by day.

Respected Sir,—– My whole family and I appeal to your good self to see my brother’s ( Gauhar Aziz Khomainy ) case from humanitarian, social and educational background angle and do the needful for his release, if he is falsely implicated which will go a long way in giving a new lease of life to a young man who loves India much and wishes to be faithful citizen of India and also to all his family members a solace to see their son and brother back to the family to lead a normal life.

Sincerely,

Hassan Aziz Aamir,
Former vice president of Aligarh Muslim University Student Union & Member of A,M,U Court.
