New Delhi : A Delhi court Monday issued summons to six people accused of involvement in the Mayapuri radiation case of 2010 and endangering lives. The court earlier accepted the charges formally filed by Delhi Police.
The police have charged the six people with committing the offence of causing death by rash and negligent acts and causing grievous hurt to others.
Metropolitan Magistrate Lovleen issued the summons after taking cognizance of the charge sheet which was filed in September 2011.
Summons have been issued to Delhi University teachers, including the then head of chemistry department V.S. Parmar and the then Dean of Sciences Roop Lal, to appear before the court March 12.
Besides Parmar and Lal, four other chemistry department professors to whom summons have been issued are Rita Kakkar, Ramesh Chandra Rastogi, Ashok Prasad and Rakesh Kumar.
In April 2010 a metal pipe discarded from Delhi University’s chemistry laboratory, containing the radioactive Cobalt 60, was found in the Mayapuri scrap market.
