Patna: Lashing out at Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and Congress General Secretary, Rahul Gandhi, National President of Welfare Party of India, Mujtaba Farooq said that despite the fact that UPA Government ignored most of the recommendations made by Sachar Committee, these leaders are busy in misleading people that all the vital recommendations were implemented.
“With few exceptions no important steps were taken on the basis of Sachar Report for the welfare of the Muslim community. On the contrary, the Government took some steps violating the Sachar recommendation. But as elections are round the corner in five states, the baseless things are being propagated” said Mr. Mujtaba Farooq while talking to TCN over phone.

He said that the Waqf Bill 2010 is an example in which the government not only ignored the recommendations of the Sachar Committee but also the suggestion of Parliamentary Committee. “Despite strong objections from the community leaders and the organizations, the government got the Bill passed in Lok Sabha. If the Bill is passed in Rajya Sabha without amendment, it will be dangerous for the community because then the Waqf properties which have been donated by Muslims for the welfare of the Muslims will not remain specific for them” he added.
“Sachar concluded with the fact that Muslims are most backward community compared to SC/ST and dalits. So, what was needed is to give more attention towards progress of Muslims by sanctioning more funds and launching more welfare schemes for them. But when you look at the funds and schemes, you will come to know that the community is not given their shares compared to what other backward classes are given. Then how will it come out from the backwardness?” asked Mr. Mujtaba.
He was highly critical of the Congress-led UPA for announcing 4.5% sub quota for the minority from 27% OBC quota. “It is cheating with Muslims. So far several Muslim castes have been getting benefit from 27% OBC quota. They were getting almost 3% reservations alone out of 27%. But the Congress for its political benefit has sanctioned 4.5 for all minorities which include Muslims, Christians, Parsi, Jain and Sikh. The Congress propagated it as it was done for the welfare of Muslims but the fact is that this new trick of Congress will reduce the benefit of the reservation from the Muslims” he said.
He further said that Muslims have been demanding for the reservation according to Mishra Commission recommendations but the Congress not only rejected their demand it also snatched the thing they were getting earlier.
