UN chief condemns Pakistan bombing

United Nations : UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon Tuesday condemned the bombing in northwest Pakistan that left nearly 30 people dead.

Ban reiterated UN’s solidarity with Pakistan in its “continuing efforts to confront terrorism and extremism”, Xinhua reported.

The secretary-general “extends his heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims and reiterates the continued solidarity of the United Nations with the people and government of Pakistan in their continuing efforts to confront terrorism and extremism,” Ban’s spokesman Martin Nesirky told reporters here.

At least 29 people were killed and 40 others injured when a bomb exploded in a taxi stand in Khyber Agency Tuesday morning. Three troopers were among the dead.

Both Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani have condemned the attack.
