New Delhi: A Delhi Police constable was beaten to death by a catering in-charge early Monday at New Delhi Railway Station when he objected to caterers taking articles to platforms and trains through unauthorised entry points, police said. The attacker was arrested.
Constable Riyaz, 53, resident of Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh, was beaten to death by Dhanpat, in his early 40s, around 6 a.m. at platform number one. Dhanpat was arrested, police said.
Riyaz succumbed to his head injuries in hospital. “Riyaz, who was deputed at the railway station, was attacked by Dhanpat when he was telling some caterers not to use unauthorised route to take the catering articles into trains,” said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Railways) B.S. Gurjar.
“The constable asked the caterers to use proper gate and passageway to take the articles into trains. In the meantime, Dhanpat, the catering in-charge, indulged in a heated argument with the victim and badly beat him up, leading to his death,” said Gurjar.
