Hyderabad : Germany-based global hospitality major Worldhotels plans to expand its presence in India.
Announcing its tie-up with four-star Golkonda Hotel here Wednesday, the company officials said they would run 20 properties in India by next year.
The company currently runs 12 hotels including Worldhotel Turquoise in Chandigarh, Asiana Hotel in Chennai, The Claridges in Delhi, Pride Park Premier in Gurgaon, The Sahara Star in Mumbai, Amby Valley in Pune and Matthan Hotel in Bangalore.
Christina Spykerman, Senior Director of Sales (Asia Pacific), Worldhotels told reporters that the company has presence in 65 countries. It runs 500 hotels in 260 destinations with more than 100,000 rooms in inventory. She said the company had a sales office in Delhi and planned to open one in Beijing. The Asia-Pacific region contributes 26 per cent to the company’s global sales revenue of $260 million.
Part of German holding company HIS, Worldhotels ranks fourth globally after Hilton, Marriott and Sheraton.
Akesh Bhatnagar, General Manager of Golkonda Hotel, said that the 22-year-old property had completed Rs.30 crore renovation project to fulfil the criteria to become a part of Worldhotels network.
He said the Golkonda had complied with the brand standards of Worldhotels in product and services. It would benefit from access to Worldhotels’ 32 sales offices globally and a clientele from across the world.
Suresh Reddy, managing director of Golkonda Hotel, said they plan to build Rs.70 crore budget hotel at Kakinada in coastal Andhra. The land for 100-room hotel would be acquired soon.
Golkonda has been also shortlisted as a bidder for Rs.200 crore tourism hotel in Mysore, belonging to Karnataka tourism.
