New Delhi: The happy journey of Ashique Hussain to pleasant Jammu & Kashmir ended on a tragic note at Safdarjang Hospital in the National Capital on this past Friday. Ashique, a resident of Shakri area in Darbhanga, had just got admission in M.Phil. at Aligarh Muslim University. To spend some time before the opening of classes, he along with his friend had gone to Jammu on 11th July. He succumbed to critical injuries at Safdarjang on 20th July, body flown to Patna and buried at his village in Darbhanga the same day.
His younger brother Khalid Hussain, son of Zahid Hussain, gave details to TCN over phone from Darbhanga on 21st July:
On 11th July, Ashique and his friend left Aligarh for Jammu to pass some days there. Ashique fell ill at Katra in Jammu. They decided to return. On 13th July they caught Jhelam Express around 10 pm. As they could not get reservation ticket, they got into general coach of the train. The coach was overcrowded. While his friend anyhow made his way to the middle of the coach, Ashique, already ill, could get just at the door. Due to heavy rush, there was no communication between the two, and cell phones were also off due to low battery. However, both saw each other at Ambala for the last time (train reaches Ambala at 5 am). After that, his friend got a seat and slept. When he woke up it was Delhi Station (around 10 am) on 14th July. He reached the place in the coach where Ashique was standing only to find him missing. He got worried and called some friends in Delhi. They tried to contact some railway stations between Ambala and New Delhi but in vain.
Around 1 am on that day (15th July), his friend got a call from Yamuna Nagar civil hospital in Haryana. The call was from Ashique’s phone. The caller told his friend about Ashique who was seriously wounded and admitted at the hospital. Some of his friends reached the hospital around 2 am. They brought him to Delhi, got him admitted at Safdarjang where CT Scan was conducted. There was internal bleeding in his brain. Ribs were broken and collar bones were also broken. He succumbed to serious injuries on 20th July.
Khalid Hussain says he is unable to understand how Ashique reached Yamuna Nagar hospital. He raises some questions: If Ashique missed his Jhelum Express at some station – he might have got off to have some tea and missed the train and then he caught another train to Delhi via Haryana and slipped from that train. He, however, added that medical reports have said he fell off from a fast running vehicle — that could be train.
