Welfare Party asks Assam CM to step down

By TCN News,

New Delhi: Welfare Party of India has asked Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi to step down on moral grounds and if he not willing, the Congress leadership should remove him from the chief ministership as he has totally failed to control the communal violence in Kokrajhar district and adjoining areas.

The violence in last four days has claimed 46 lives (official figure), mostly Bengali speaking Muslims. Several lakhs people have become homeless and are taking refuge in shelters.

“It is nothing but cruel that the Chief Minister put entire blame on media and cites lame justification for the unpardonable delay in dispatching law enforcing personnel to the riot –hit areas,” said Dr. S. Q. R. Ilyas, General Secretary, Welfare Party.

He said that no meaningful rehabilitation and unbiased enquiry will take place under Gogoi. He also demanded the central government to hand over the entire affected areas to the military till complete rehabilitation is ensured.

The other demands the Party made include release of 15 lakh rupees to the next kin of each deceased and to give employment to a family member of the decease family. The party also demanded judicial enquiry about the root-cause of the riot within three months. The Party also asked the centre and state governments and civil society to initiate concrete healing process at the earliest to bring communal harmony.
