Kochi : CPI-M leader M.M. Mani Tuesday filed a petition in the Kerala High Court seeking the quashing of a police complaint about his speech in which he claimed his party had killed political foes.
The party’s Idukki district secretary triggered a storm when he claimed May 25 that the Communist Party of India-Marxist had murdered four critics one by one, presumably in the 1980s.
Following his speech, the Kerala Police registered a case against him, charging him with murder.
Mani promptly disappeared from view. On Tuesday, through his counsel, he approached the court stating various instances of cases where a closed case cannot be opened again.
He accused the ruling Congress of settling political scores and urged the quashing of the FIR.
Three of the four cases mentioned by Mani in his speech were dismissed earlier for want of evidence.
