Malappuram: “Though numerous minority welfare schemes and development programmes have been enacted by the government recently, it is sad that they are not reaching the deserving sections of the society. Funds worth crores of Rupees meant for Muslim welfare are spent on villages were one can’t trace a single Muslim family. Besides it is found that the funds are not efficiently utilised in Muslim concentrated areas”, said National Minority Commission Chairman Wajahat Habibullah. He was talking in the inaugural address of a national minority seminar organised by Minority Educational Association [MEA] at Malappuram.
He observed that though institutions like Maulana Asad Foundation provides grants and scholarships, most within the Muslim community doesn’t even have the basic awareness regarding such schemes. He reminded that the government agencies have already revealed regarding the pathetic state of the Muslim community with reference to social and educational development, which they say is even worse than the scheduled castes and tribes.
So the minority commission chairman noted that it is the duty of the whole nation and its people to work for the emancipation of these backward sections rather than merely focusing on the country’s economic and military strength as He says, “This is the only way we could undertake complete development of the nation by ensuring participation from every section of the society in the developmental process of the nation”.
The one’s who are reluctant towards interest based banking should invest in alternate banking systems so as to ensure economic development of the nation and Tamil Nadu is indeed an example on this regard for the whole country. Details regarding various minority welfare schemes and aides are available in the minority commission website and it is the duty of the Muslim organisations to closely work on such information so as to ensure its availability to the Muslim community. Any further doubts can be cleared by making use of the video conferencing facility available in the website, said the Minority Commission Chairman.
MEA District President Basheer Ali Shihab Thangal presided over the function. MEA State President Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal, Secretary Mustafa Mundambra, Abdu Rahman Randathaani MLA, Prof K Ali Kutty Muslyar, Saleem Karuvambalam, Dr Hussain Madavoor, Abdu Rahman Peringadi, Prof AK Abdul Hameed, PK Ahmed Ali Madani, Subai Nellikaparamb and Muhammed Kodoor addressed the Seminar.
