Hyderabad : Edutor Technologies, a Hyderabad-based technology company serving the education market, Monday announced the launch of its ‘Augmented Classroom Solution’ (ACS) designed for use in Android-based touch devices.
The IIT-IIM alumni venture aims to reach out to 20,000 to 30,000 students in five cities over the next 18 month. It already has presence in Hyderabad, Bangalore and Delhi and plans to expand to Mumbai and Chennai.
CEO of Edutor Technologies Ram Gollamudi told reporters that they ultimately plan to target 1.5 million students by 2015.
Claiming that ACS has already grabbed the market attention, Ram said that 800 students of Meridian and Delhi Public School will use the solution this academic year. Well-established coaching institute Aakash and Hyderabad-based PAGE Institute will also introduce Edutor ACS.
“We are in advance talks with many other schools and institutes,” he added. The solution is priced between Rs.1,500 to Rs.2,000 while the Edutor tablet costs Rs.7,000. However, the user can choose only the solution and integrate it with any Android-based tablet.
He believes ACS is an answer to how tablet PCs can be made purposeful in an education ecosystem. “With our solution inside, the tablet PCs augment the learning experience of the students in a whole new way.”
“We believe integration of learning materials on intuitive touch devices will strengthen teacher as well as student effort to enhance homework and study assessment process. The solution has the potential to lighten the schoolbag and empower education.”
The key feature of Edutor Augmented Classroom Solution is its ability to integrate learning material exactly as per school syllabus inside the touch screen devices. This includes digitised textbooks, multi-media material, interactive concept-maps and assessment.
According to Frost & Sullivan, the tablet PC user base in India has increased from 60,000 units in 2010 to 300,000 in 2011. The overall tablet PC user base is likely to grow at 107 percent to reach 23.38 million by 2017.
