New Delhi : A day after Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi said Congress’s fortunes were declining, the party Monday dismissed the attack as a tactic to divert attention from the rifts in his own party.
Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari said Modi’s statement was an attempt to divert attention from the divisions within the BJP.
“Modi should first handle Keshubhai Patel and Sanjay Joshi before attacking us,” Tewari said.
“Their own house is not in order. To divert people’s attention from their internal problems, they are commenting on us,” he said.
Modi said Sunday at Rajkot in Gujarat that the Congress’s “ship is sinking”, and added that the government in Delhi does not know that there was a “hole in the ship”.
The BJP’s star chief minister recently patched up with top party leaders after forcing his arch-rival Joshi to first resign from the national executive. Joshi later resigned from the party too.
Modi is also at loggerheads with Patel, a former Gujarat chief minister whom he replaced in 2001.
