Hyderabad: Nizamia Tibbia college is seem to be in serious trouble now, as Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) has decided not to permit post-graduate (MD) course for the second consecutive year due to huge shortage of the teaching faculty. CCIM cancelled the MD courses in the Tibbia College for 2011-12, seeing no changes in the condition and continuous violation of CCIM norms they have decided to extend the cancellation for academic year 2012-13.
Dying slowly: Nizamia Tibbia College
Eight posts of professors, senior lecturers and readers are lying vacant in three departments of PG studies, according to CCIM rules there should be regular faculty in the PG program, but the entire faculty has been appointed on contract basis. Even the principal of the college is being appointed by the govt on the temporary contractual basis. There are only two appointed professors to teach five departments of PG course.
There were 35 seats in five departments of PG; it was the only Unani College in the whole AP state which was offering MD course, now students from AP have to go out of the state to pursue higher studies in Unani medicine.
This not the end of troubles for this historic Unani college as its under graduate courses are also getting under the threat of closer due to the non-availability of the teaching staff. There is only one professor, nine assistant professor, and eight lecturers in the seven departments of UG. In last two years eight professors were retired and those posts are still lying vacant, college still needs recruitment of 13 professors in the UG course to fill the gap.
The uncertainty of continuation of the UG courses in the college is becoming contiguous by the fact that NTR Health University which use to conduct the entrance exam for the Unani colleges generally in the last week of June, till now has not even issued the notification for the entrance exam. Nizamia Tibbia College is the only Unani College in Hyderabad and along with Kurnool Unani College are the only two unani medicine study centers in the all of Andhra Pradesh state.
