Mumbai: Aawaaz-e-Niswan, a Mumbai based Muslim women organisation will hold a state-level Muslim women conference. The group, which is part of Muslim Women Rights Network (MWRN), is meeting on 3rd and 4th March to finalise the details of the conference. According to Nasim, an activist of Aawaaze-e-Niswan, who works as a councilor with the organisation, the conference will be held either in last week of May or first week of June.
Talking to TCN over phone, Nasim told, “On coming Saturday and Sunday we are meeting to discuss the agenda and other details of the conference.” She informed, “In these two-days, we will be discussing various issues and problems related to Muslim women.” According to an invite issued by the group, this is an autonomous campaign actively working and organizations nationally are part of the MWRN which meets every year.
The meeting is likely to bring together activists working on women rights across Maharashtra, who will deliberate on the socio-economic issues of Muslim Women in urban and rural areas; situation of Muslim women in the context of communalism and discrimination; impact of Muslim Personal Law and religious institutions on women and the role of state machinery and right wing groups.
