The Prosecutor General’s Office said Thursday it has asked Ukraine to extradite Adam Osmayev and two other conspirators.

After weeks of interrogation, the plotters confessed they were planning to assassinate Putin in Moscow soon after the March 4 presidential elections, according to Russia’s Channel One TV.

The three were detained in the Ukrainian port city of Odessa in January following an explosion in their rented apartment. They have since provided information about the plot to Ukrainian and Russian security services.

The TV report — featuring Osmayev’s interrogation — said the militant, who had been on the international wanted list since 2007, is cooperating with investigators in hopes of avoiding extradition to Russia.
