Panaji : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tuesday won a simple majority in the Goa assembly elections with 21 seats, and was poised to form the government with alliance partner Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP).
The combine trounced the ruling Congress-Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) alliance in the 40-member Goa legislative assembly.
While the BJP won 21 seats, its partner MGP won three seats.
This is the first time that the BJP has won a simple majority in assembly polls here.
The regional Goa Vikas Party (GVP) has won two seats, while five independents have emerged victorious.
Goa voted March 3 for its 40-member assembly.
