New Delhi : The son of Sayed Ahmed Kazmi, an Indian journalist arrested for his links with the terror attack on an Israeli diplomat’s wife last month, has denied allegations that his father had given shelter to those behind the attack.
Addressing a press conference here Friday, Shauzab Kazmi said no Iranian national linked to the Feb 13 bomb attack had visited their house.
Shauzab Kazmi said: “It is completely a false statement that my father has given shelter to the blast accused. No Iranian related to this case has visited our house.”
He also denied that the scooty, which was allegedly used in the blast, has been recovered from Kazmi’s house.
He said the scooty which police claimed was used in the blast was lying in his house since the past two years. “It was bought by my uncle who hails from Meerut two years ago when he had come for treatment to AIIMS.”
The press conference was also addressed by S.K. Pandey, president of Delhi Union of Journalists, senior journalist Saeed Naqvi, and others.
Pandey said he has sent a mail to the police chief requesting him to release Kazmi on bail as he is cooperating in the probe. He also warned police against indulging in media trial in the case.
Sayed Ahmed Kazmi, 52, was arrested by the special cell of Delhi Police Tuesday night. He is in police custody.
Kazmi, who hails from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, is a resident of south Delhi’s B.K. Dutt colony near Jor Bagh area.
A post-graduate in Persian language from Delhi University, Kazmi has worked as a freelance journalist with DD News. He has also worked as news reader for a Tehran-based radio.
Four people were injured when an Israeli diplomat’s car was struck by a bomb near the Israeli embassy in the capital Feb 13.
Tal Yehoshua Koren, wife of the Israeli defence attache, suffered multiple injuries when a motorcycle rider attached a magnetic explosive device to her car and sped away. Within seconds, the device exploded with a thunderous sound, setting the car on fire.
Koren moved back to Israel after getting treatment at a private south Delhi hospital. Three others injured were discharged after being given medical aid.
