New Delhi : India and Malaysia Monday signed a treaty to provide mutual assistance in criminal matters that is expected to boost busting of international crimes and apprehending of criminals.
The treaty was signed between Indian Ministry of External Affairs Secretary Sanjay Singh and Malaysian Attorney General Abdul Gani Patail on the sidelines of the third India-Malaysia Foreign Office consultations held in Putrajaya in Malaysia, a release said here.
At the consultations, Sanjay Singh held talks with Malaysian foreign ministry secretary general Mohammed Radzi bin Abdul Rahman when the two sides held detailed discussions on all aspects of the bilateral relationship, and in particular on the follow up to the understanding and agreements reached at the fifth Joint Commission Meeting between the foreign ministers of the two countries which was held in Kuala Lumpur last May.
They agreed that the India-Malaysia Strategic Partnership is an important component in the foreign policies of both countries and agreed to work together to deepen the partnership through implementation of the vision outlined by the two prime ministers in the joint statement issued in Kuala Lumpur on the Oct 27, 2010.
The two secretaries also discussed bilateral collaboration on India-ASEAN commemorative events.
Sanjay Singh also called on Malaysian Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Senator Kohillan Pillay during the visit.
