Mid-sea collision: Ship captain sent to judicial custody

Alappuzha (Kerala) : A Kerala court Wednesday sent to 14 days’s judicial custody the captain of a vessel suspected to be involved in a mid-sea collision with a fishing boat off the coast here March 1 that killed five fishermen.

Gordon Charles Pereira, the captain of ship Prabhu Daya owned by a Singapore firm, was brought from Chennai by a team of Kerala Police and was presented in court.

A first class judicial magistrate here sent him to 14 days’ judicial custody. He is likely to be lodged at Alappuzha jail near here.

Besides Pereira, another officer of the ship, Virendra Kumar Chauhan, is in judicial custody. He was arrested March 9.
