Amritsar : A mob made up mostly of farmers Tuesday blocked train tracks at the Amritsar railway station after a passenger suffered a fatal heart attack, police said.
“One of the passengers travelling from Delhi to Amritsar died of a heart attack. Following the incident, fellow passengers collected people and blocked train traffic,” said Inspector Sukhinder Singh.
“Around 150 people blocked the tracks,” he said.
The mob demanded a sum of Rs.5 lakh as compensation to the family and a job to one of the family members as no medical aid was provided to the deceased in the train, Head Constable Amrik Singh said.
The mob dispersed after being assured by the administration that their demands would be addressed, police said.
Because of the jam, many trains were delayed.
