Heat wave sears Odisha, Titilagarh records 46.5 degrees

Bhubaneswar : A heat wave sweeping across Odisha intensified further with Titilagarh town Friday recording a maximum temperature of 46.5 degrees Celsius, the state’s highest of the day and the season so far, an official said.

Most shops remained shuttered and people stayed indoors in the town, the sub-divisional headquarters of Balangir district, about 400 km from here.

The other places which too recorded high temperatures included Sambalpur (46 degrees Celsius), Hirakud (45.8 degrees), and Sonepur (45.4 degrees), a senior official of the Bhubaneswar Meteorological centre told IANS.

While the maximum temperatures shot up to 40-43 degree in many other places across the state, capital city Bhubaneswar also recorded a daytime high of 41.4 degrees Celsius.
