Former NCM chairman Justice SA Khan passes away

Hyderabad: Justice Sardar Ali Khan, a noted jurist and former chairman of the National Commission of Minorities passed away in the early hours of Thursday.

He was admitted at Yashoda hospital Malakpet after some illness where he breathed his last; his Namaz-e-Janaza was performed at 10 A.M. in the morning at Syed Mohammed grave yard at Chanchalguda, Hyderabad.

Many Muslim political leaders and intellectuals turned up to pay him last tributes. The legal fraternity in the state capital mourned the death of Justice Khan, who was also the President of the Andhra Pradesh State Legal Aid and Advisory Board, President of Andhra Pradesh Judicial Academy, and Dean of the Faculty of Law at Osmania University.

Justice G. Chandraih and Justice B. Chandra Kumar of Andhra Pradesh High court, who were also students of Justice Khan, paid their tributes at his funeral.

Vice-President of India Hamid Ansari expressed his deep sorrow on the demise of Justice Khan who was also a member and elected Vice-Chairman of the U.N Sub-Commission on the Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities, member of the U.N.Working Group on minorities(representing the Asian Continent), and also an ex-officio member of the National Commission for Human rights.

VP, in his message to Justice Khan’s family said, “I am saddened to hear about the passing away of Justice Sardar Ali Khan, my illustrious predecessor at the National Commission for Minorities. Justice Khan’s services to the nation, particularly for the cause of minorities and under privileged during his long and distinguished public service shall always be remembered.”

“I convey my heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and well-wishers of Justice Khan at this hour of grief,” Ansari added.
