Britain Tuesday lifted its advisory against travelling to Jammu and Kashmir, imposed in 1995.

Jammu and Kashmir has been witnessing a peaceful summer for the past two years, and this year it recorded bumper tourist arrivals at around one million.

“We no longer advise against travel to Jammu and Srinagar, nor against travel on the Jammu to Srinagar highway,” the British high commission said in an update on its website Tuesday.

Reacting to the change in the advisory, Hague said it was issued as “the facts have changed… There has been an improvement in the situation (in Jammu and Kashmir) and it was issued after understanding of the facts.”

Britain is the third country after Germany and Japan to revoke advice to its citizens against travelling to Jammu and Kashmir.
