Ranchi : Two policemen and a prisoner were killed and eight prisoners escaped when Maoist rebels Friday attacked a police vehicle escorting another vehicle carrying prisoners in Jharkhand’s Giridih district, police said.
“Two policemen and a prisoner were killed and eight prisoners managed to escape in the attack,” Director General of Police G.S. Rath told IANS.
According to police, Maoist guerrillas attacked the police vehicle to free their jailed comrades.
There were more than 10 prisoners in the vehicle and eight escaped.
Maoists attacked the vehicle when the prisoners were being taken back to the jail after a court appearance.
In the ensuing gun battle, two policemen and a prisoner died.
