Trucker loses eye in police torture, NHRC issues notice

New Delhi : The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Friday issued notice to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, after a truck driver lost an eye during alleged torture by police when he refused to pay them a bribe.

“The DIG has been asked to submit a report within four weeks along with a status report on the health of the victim,” said an NHRC official.

According to media reports Oct 19, police tortured Wahid because he refused to bribe them.

He was admitted to a hospital in Meerut where doctors said he had lost vision in the injured eye.
