“The Delhi government has announced the industrial policy for 2010-2021. Our vision is to make the city a hub of clean and high technology with skilled economic activities by 2021,” Industries Minister Harun Yusuf said at the ‘Delhi Day’, which was celebrated as part of the 32nd India International Trade Fair (IITF) in Pragati Maidan.

He said this would be achieved by changing the city’s “low-skilled industrial profile to high tech, high skilled one”.

The minister said that Delhi’s GDP in 2011-12 was Rs.2.13 lakh crore – an increase of 11.43 percent over the previous year, while the capital registered an average annual gross domestic product growth rate of 15 percent in the last 10 years against the country’s 8.9 percent.

“Our endeavour is to promote non-polluting, knowledge-based, high technology and skilled industries to keep in-migration of unskilled labour to a minimum,” Yusuf said.

He also said that the government was making efforts to develop “world-class infrastructure within planned industrial estates”, while non-conforming industrial clusters would be “notified for redevelopment”.

Delhi Industries Commissioner and Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) CMD Shakti Sinha said the DSIIDC has been playing an important role in development of industries in the capital.
