New Delhi : Facing dissent over ticket distribution for the Gujarat assembly elections next month, the Congress Thursday withdrew its second list of candidates announced around midnight Wednesday, party sources said Thursday.
“The second list of 46 candidates for Gujarat assembly polls stands withdrawn,” said a communication from the Congress.
According to party sources, many Congress MPs from Gujarat were unhappy over ticket distribution and conveyed their views to seniors, including general secretary Rahul Gandhi, who is expected to campaign in the BJP-ruled state for the Dec 13 and 17 balloting.
Gujarat Congress chief Arjun Modhwadia and Congress Legislature Party leader Shaktisinh Gohil figured in the first list of 52 candidates announced Wednesday evening. Modhwadia will contest from Porbandar and Gohil from Bhavnagar rural seat.
The first list included constituencies that would go to the polls Dec 13 and 17. There were four women nominees in the first list.
Gujarat has a 182-member assembly. The election results will be out Dec 20.
