India beat Malaysia in Asia U-18 basketball

Kuala Lumpur : India outpointed hosts Malaysia 60-59 in a qualifying match of the Under-18 basketball Asia Championship for Women here Friday.

The win brought India back to Level I, in sixth position, for the next edition of the event to be played in 2014.

They played in Level II for two successive editions including the ongoing one. The last time India played in Level I was at Medan (Indonesia) 2008, where they lost to Kazakhstan in the Level I qualifying play-off.

Leading India was Jeena Skaria who scored a game-high 24 points playing the entire game with an 11/20 field shooting. She also pulled down 11 rebounds.

Rajaganapathi led the game in rebounds with 14 collections.

Shireen Limaye did a superb job of controlling Malaysian playmaker Teo Chu Yun and returned 11 rebounds, nine in defence, three assists, four steals and a block before being ejected for five fouls with about two minutes left on the clock.
