Kolkata : In a bid to improve the security of passengers, the Kolkata Metro has decided to install X-ray baggage scanners in all metro stations of the city.
“With a view to boosting passenger security as a part of the Integrated Security System (ISS), Metro Railway, Kolkata has procured 23 X-ray baggage scanners. These scanners will be installed at all the 23 metro stations for safety of passengers,” said a statement.
It stated that these X-Ray devices will be helpful in detecting prohibited material in bags carried by commuters and strengthen security of metro users.
Beginning with five stations spread over a 3.4 km stretch in 1984, the Kolkata Metro now connects 23 stations on a line stretching 25.13 km.
