Narwana (Haryana) : Two more people were arrested for their alleged involvement in the gang-rape of a Dalit girl in Haryana’s Jind district, police said Sunday.
The 16-year-old girl, who set herself on fire after the incident Saturday, later died of her severe burns. Her body was cremated Sunday, police said.
Police arrested two people Saturday for their involvement in the case.
Two youths – Pradeep and Naveen – were Sunday arrested for their involvement in the crime. This brings to four the total number of arrests in the case.
Her relatives cremated her body at their village Sachhakhera, near here Sunday.
After she was raped, the girl went home and sprinkled kerosene and set herself alight. She was taken to a hospital in Jind from where she was referred to Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) in Rohtak. She later died at PGIMS.
Pradeep, the main accused, Saturday dragged the 16-year-old girl from the Balmiki community to his house as his sister-in-law Meenu kept a watch outside. The victim was first raped by him and then by Naveen, police said.
In her dying statement to the police, the victim said that another person, Sanjeev, had also entered the room and bolted the door but did not rape her. The police Saturday arrested Meenu and Sanjeev.
This was the 12th case of rape in Haryana in less than a month.
