“We have received a complaint from Siddhant Mundra, a first year student of the university that he has been repeatedly ragged and that he had to leave the institution after receiving death threats from his seniors,” said an officer of Kandi police station in Murshidabad district.

Mundhra, a resident of Kandi, named four of his seniors at the university in the complaint. The university authorities have initiated an inquiry and urged the student to return.

“I received a call from a university official asking my son to return to the university. I told him that we are scared to send him back as they did nothing to stop the menace of ragging,” said Ramesh Mundhra, the student’s father.

Siddhant claimed that his seniors continued to threaten him even after he left the university hostel and started staying elsewhere. He said that Oct 6 he received a letter wherein he was threatened of dire consequences if he continued to study at the university.

Alarmed by the letter, his parents asked him to return home.

Narrating his plight to journalists, he said that the seniors used to assault him at the hostel.

“Who will compensate for the years I have lost,” Siddhant asked.

The student was subjected to ragging earlier also by his seniors.

University Dean Rajat Roy said Siddhant did not inform the authorities before leaving and added that the university was willing to extend all support to him.
