British era railway station damaged

Siliguri : A part of the British era Sonada railway station in West Bengal’s Darjeeling district was gutted Monday. There were no casualties, officials said.

The station, part of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway that runs the heritage toy train, caught fire around 9.30 a.m.

“A part of the station was destroyed,” said Darjeeling Himalayan Railway Director N. Bhutia.

“A public phone booth and six-seven stalls were damaged,” police said. An official said short circuit was suspected to have caused the fire.
