Mumbai: The Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP), a Mumbai based trust working for Gujarat riot victims has rebutted, what it calls, the ‘malicious campaign’ launched by the newspaper the Pioneer, and edited by Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Chandan Mitra.
In a story recently, the newspaper has alleged what CJP terms, ‘outright falsehoods,’ the violations of the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA).
This is the second time the paper has retorted to such a campaign, right before the Gujarat elections, when CJP is highlighting the ill-treatment of the Gujarat Government towards riots victims. Teesta Setalvad, secretary of the CJP is a vocal critic of Narendra Modi for his misdemeanor during the Gujarat carnage in 2002, and subsequent denial of basic rights to riot victims.
The Pioneer has been carrying such stories against CJP since 2010. In October, 2010 CJP had sent a legal notice to the newspaper through its lawyers.
The statement by CJP says, it will send another legal notice this time.
CJP also pointed out that it follows all legal and regulatory norms and files reports regularly, as required by law. It further cleared that all the foreign contribution it received, followed legal norms and were accordingly used for riot victims.
