New Delhi : With 76 new cases reported in the last two days, there was no sign of let-up in the surge in dengue cases in the capital, official data Thursday revealed.
A whopping 788 dengue cases have been reported in the capital this season so far. Of these, 39 new cases were reported Wednesday and 37 Thursday.
In the past two days, 27 new cases were reported from the areas under the East Delhi Municipal Corporation; 23 from the North Delhi Municipal Corporation areas; and 18 from the South Delhi Municipal Corporation areas.
The rest of the cases were reported from New Delhi Municipal Council areas and Delhi Cantonment, the government data showed.
Since dengue hit the capital this year, South Delhi Municipal Corporation continues to top the list with 281 cases reported so far in areas covered by it.
As many as 266 cases have been detected in the North Delhi Municipal Corporation area, and 211 cases in the areas of East Delhi Municipal Corporation, the data showed.
“Reports of several blood samples are awaited. The number of dengue cases may rise further in the coming days,” a South Delhi Municipal Corporation official told IANS.
So far, dengue vector has claimed two lives in the capital this year, while four people lost their lives to the disease last year.
In 2011, a total of 613 cases were reported, while this year the tally has already gone over 780 and continues to rise.
In 2009, there were a total of 231 dengue cases and one death, while in 2008 there were 1,028 dengue cases and two deaths.
