In his initial remarks Sunday after being appointed Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power, Scindia said: “Priorities will be to ensure that there is proper electric supply.. that both the government and private electric companies work in tandem for the united goal of country’s progress.”

He takes charge of the power ministry when the sector is faced with acute fuel shortage affecting electricity generation in the country, besides other issues like revision of power tariffs and improving finances of distribution companies (discoms).

“I will also try to ensure coordination with coal and environment ministries,” Scindia said, drawing attention, thereby, to the related problems of environment clearances for coal mining and of boosting coal production, that are impacting on power generation.
