Hyderabad : Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy Sunday urged the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government to clear the uncertainty over Telangana issue.
At a time when the demand for separate statehood to Telangana region is gathering momentum, the chief minister said the issue was in central government’s purview and a decision would be taken soon.
Interacting with students of Palamuru University in Mahabubnagar district of Telangana region, the chief minister said he had requested the central government to take some decision and clear the uncertainty.
The uncertainty is gripping the state since later 2009 when the central government announced that the process for formation of Telangana state would be initiated but later backed down following violent protests in Andhra and Rayalaseema regions of the state.
Protests for and against state’s bifurcation led to frequent shutdowns and violence, affecting the business and industry and also impacted the new investment.
Pro-Telangana groups are gearing up to launch a fresh round of protest with Hyderabad march on Sep 30.
