Haryana announces Rs.25 lakh for soldier’s kin

Chandigarh : The Haryana government Thursday announced a financial assistance of Rs.25 lakh to an army lieutenant colonel who was killed in South Sudan during UN peace-keeping operations.

Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda announced the decision to give the assistance of Rs.25 lakh to the family of Lt. Col. Mahipal Singh, who hailed from the state.

The Lt.Col. and four other Indian soldiers, who were on a UN peacekeeping mission in Africa’s South Sudan, were killed in an ambush early Tuesday by armed rebels.

The bodies of the five martyrs reached India from South Sudan early Thursday morning.
