Kolkata: West Bengal Industry Minister Partha Chatterjee Friday stressed the need to introduce cutting-edge technology and revamp marketing strategies in the state’s food processing sector.
“In 21st century, we cannot proceed with traditional technology. There needs to be a technological change. Marketing stretegies need to be developed and easy access should be avaialble,” Chatterjee said.
He was speaking at the inauguration of the 12th International Food, Bakery and Hoteltech, the largest international exhibition in the food sector in eastern India.
Chatterjee highlighted the government’s dedication to revive the food processing industry and said 12 food parks were on the anvil.
These would come up in Malda, Murshidabad, North and South 24-Parganas and Siliguri.
“There is a possibility (of setting them up) in Nadia and South Dinajpur as well.”
Chatterjee said a project worth Rs.100 crore will flag off soon at Baruipur in South 24-Parganas, 25 km from the city, in collaboration with a private company.
