Islamabad : Pakistan’s national assembly Thursday passed a unanimous resolution condemning firing by Indian forces that killed a Pakistani army captain.
The army said the officer was killed and another soldier injured when Indian forces fired late Tuesday and Wednesday morning along the Line of Control (LoC) that divides Kashmir between the two countries.
The incident was the latest in the ongoing escalation of clashes along the LoC, which has heightened diplomatic tensions between the two nuclear rivals.
The resolution expressed serious concern over the continued violation of the ceasefire on the LoC by the Indian Army and called for constructive and result-oriented peace process.
The house paid tribute to slain Captain Sarfraz and prayed for the early recovery of the injured soldier.
The resolution stated: “The people of the country stand by the civil and military leadership to defend the territories of the country.”
Though Pakistan and India declared a ceasefire in 2003, they accuse each other of violating the ceasefire.
Pakistan Wednesday summoned a senior Indian diplomat to the foreign ministry and a protest was lodged over the killing of the captain.
Tension has heightened at a time when the prime ministers of the two countries are scheduled to meet next month in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meeting.
