Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal has directed the authorities concerned to construct and operationalise these check-posts by Jan 1, 2014 after the excise and taxation department put up the proposal.

While 11 would be major, 25 would be minor-scale posts.

Badal said, “Check-posts would have separate parking, loading and unloading areas besides restrooms and refreshing rooms for drivers. Heavy vehicle scanners, vehicle weighing platforms, high-resolution CCTV cameras and number plate capturing equipment would be the other facilities.”

“There would be six to seven bays for smooth and hassle-free disposal of goods traffic. Passenger traffic would not be stopped as there would be separate lanes for private tourist buses and taxis,” he added.
