New Delhi: Forum for Students Democracy (FSD) has strongly condemns Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad’s (ABVP) vandalism, intimidation and violence in Film and Television Institute (FTII) Campus in Pune. ABVP activists have beaten up Kabir Kala Manch members during a documentary show of Anand Patwardhan’s Jai Bhim Comrade. This needs to be widely condemned by everyone. We stand in solidarity with the FTII Student and Kabir Kala Manch members.

FSD also participated in a dharna organised on Monday at Jantar Mantar against the attack.

In a press statement, FSD said, “We would like to bring to the notice of the media and police that ABVP is working like a terrorist organization masquerading as a nationalist organization. The ABVP is involved in terrorist activities and brazenly attacks liberals and open minded individuals.”

Maharashtra CM Prithviraj Chavan had noted that those who killed Mahamta Gandhi are also behind the murder of Dr Narendra Dabholkar, it pointed out and demanded that the ABVP activities be properly scrutinized and proper actions be taken.

It further said, “We also demand that the organization is brought under the surveillance of the intelligence agencies and special branches, subsidiary intelligence bureau, across the nation. We believe that this radical organization is the single largest threat to the Constitution of India as it hides behind the mask of nationalism and deceives the police and law enforcement agencies.”

ABVP activists had accused the FTII students of being “Naxalite” for inviting the Kabir Kala Manch and allegedly also asked them to say “Jai Narendra Modi” and thrashed on refusal on the night of 21 August in Pune.
